Regional
Nestled up against the Andes and bathed in bright sunlight throughout the growing season, the vineyards of Chile are a truly beautiful place to be. The industry here grows apace, with new regions and sites being exploited, all fuelled by growing demand, cheap land, and labor, and plentiful irrigation water from the mountains. Cemented in our psyche as a source of good value varietals, especially Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, Chile is also a source of diverse and refined styles such as Pinot Noir, Cabernet, and its calling card Carmenère.
The producer
Ventisquero was founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial, the president of Agrosuper, Chile’s largest producer of fresh food. From the beginning, the aim was to produce environmentally sustainable high-class wines, exclusively from estate-grown fruit. The head winemaker from the first vintage in 2000 has been Felipe Tosso, he works with the fruits of 6 different vineyards totaling nearly 1000 hectares, located in some of the best sites in the country, including significant holdings in Casablanca, Apalta in Colchagua, and in Leyda.
Winemaking
Pneumatically pressed and kept under inert gas. Long cool (13-15C) fermentation in stainless steel. If blocked. Aged on lees for 4 months with regular stirring.
Tasting Note
Expressive and fresh. Mineral notes combine with papaya and mango and hints of white peach, ginger, and lime. Medium-bodied with fine balancing acidity.
Food Matching
Flatfish. Grilled or roast chicken with garlic, herbs, and lemon.
